Instagram Account Hygiene: A Monthly Checklist

A short, repeatable routine for keeping your profile clear, your following list intentional, and your account secure.

Account hygiene is the small, regular maintenance that keeps an Instagram account pleasant to use and safe. Think of it as ten to fifteen minutes once a month. Here is a checklist you can follow.

    Profile

Make sure a new visitor understands you quickly:

    • Bio says who you are and what people can expect.
    • Link is current and works on mobile.
    • Up to three pinned posts that represent you well.
    • Profile photo is clear at small sizes.

    Following list

Run a fresh scan, review new non-followers, and remove the ones you no longer want. Protect anyone important with Keep so future cleanups skip them automatically. Check the Who Unfollowed Me tab to see who left since your last complete scan.

    Content and tags

Archive posts that no longer represent you, and review photos you are tagged in. Instagram lets you hide tagged posts from your profile without deleting them.

    Security

The most important part of the checklist:

    • Two-factor authentication is on.
    • No unfamiliar logins in Instagram's login activity.
    • Remove third-party apps you no longer use.
    • Change your password if you ever shared it with another service.

Unfollow Assistant never needs your password. If any service asks for it, treat that as a warning sign.

    Pace any cleanup

If your monthly review turns up a lot of accounts, spread the cleanup over a few days in batches of 30 to 50. A tidy account is not worth a temporary block.
